Dirt Bikes

Dirt bikes are fun and fast. Learning to ride them is exciting but it is not a skill you can develop overnight. It takes practice and patience. The following tips will help you become a better rider and hopefully have you competing in no time.

The first tip and probably the most important is your body position. Get your body position right and you will have a smoother, safer and ultimately faster ride. Most of your riding will be done in the standing position. This is a much better distribution of your weight and also gives you much more control than sitting down.

Be sure to have the foot pegs in the middle of your feet, so that you have the best possible control over the foot levers. In the standing position, grip the bike with your knees slightly bent. Your back should be slightly arched as well, do not over arch your back or you could end up going over the handlebars. The final standing tip is to keep one or two fingers on the brake and clutch levels. This lets you get to the levels faster and ultimately have more control. This position is going to feel unnatural at first, but stick with it, after a while it will feel like second nature.

Practice riding dirt bikes in this position. Do not worry about speed, get comfortable and focus on this riding technique. Once you perfect it, you will start to see that you are naturally riding faster and harder.

Knowing how to break is essential for riding dirk bikes. You should use the front and the rear breaks together smoothly. Do not jolt on the break no matter how scared you are, if you do this you could lock up the wheels and flip over. The front break will be doing the majority of the work and if you see it start to lock up, ease off the break and get that wheel rotating again. Use the gears to control your speed as well. Changing down gears when you need to break will also put you in a good position for changing gears back up when you come out of a corner.
